I'm hearing the argument that although slavery was practiced everywhere, nowhere was it as brutal as at the hands of Western societies. Is this the new tack? Concede slavery's universality, but quickly redirect blame back to the West by claiming it was especially savage?
Critic’s claims of ‘whataboutery’ fail when they elide hypocrisy. Contextualizing current issues with appeals to historical realities - as you do - seems entirely appropriate.

I would love your thoughts on a question troubling me:
How did Christianity lose its momentum in early-church condemnations and remedies of slavery?
Here in the USA, slavery is often called our “original sin.” And that is justified.
But there was nothing at all original about our sin.

Thanks again for your efforts in this debate.
